5 “Effortlessly Cool” Boys Hairstyles

Every kid wants to stand out. Whether it’s at school, hockey practice or a summer pool party, every boy wants the coolest new “doo” to impress their classmates and friends.

As a busy parent, between packing lunches, the carpool schedule and trying to squeeze in some yoga time, it might seem like too much maintenance to add a complicated hairstyle for your child to the mix… THINK AGAIN.

We’ve got a list of 5 (EASY) Cool Boys Hairstyles you (and your kid) will love! Check it out:

#1 MOHAWK WITH A FADE

source

There’s something effortlessly cool about a mohawk, faux hawk and spiky hairstyles, especially for young boys that want a unique, edgy look they can rock all year round.

This look is sure to impress and can all be achieved easily, as long as you leave at least 3 inches of hair length on top. Use some pomade to spike up the hair and give it some lift. The hair underneath is so short, it will remain in place and requires essentially zero maintenance. Hooray!

#2 SPIKY HAIR WITH MID FADE

source

Contrary to popular believe, stylish spikes are still in and yes, super trendy! The difference is, the spikes of today have completely transformed into the boy band styles you’re probably remembering a little too well…

The best way to add some texture and spiky-ness to your child’s hairstyle is by using a high-quality pomade and NOT a gel. Remember, gel is the enemy when it comes to the modern, “cool” spikes that are in right now. However… it’ll work great if you’re doing a throwback party and want to bring back the crunchy spikes of the 90’s… but we don’t recommend it.

A high-quality hair wax or pomade will give you a strong hold that will last all day without the hardness or flakiness of a bad gel. Once again, it’s all about the top hair with this look, since the underneath hair requires basically no maintenance. Brush upward, then using your wax or pomade, style the top hair into a high, spiky look,  usually angled to the side for an edgier look.

#3 TEXTURED CROP WITH ANGULAR FRINGE

source

This look works best with a under-fade haircut and a thick mop on top. Using a pomade like our ShapeShifter, style the hair as normal, giving it lots of volume and texture, then finish it off by shaping it into an angular, downward comb over.

This will give you flexible style and hold with a natural, light-shine finish.

#4 HIGH FADE WITH SHARP SIDE PART

source

This is another relatively low-maintenance hairstyle that’s headache-free for the parents and fun for kids. It works best with a medium fade haircut with a strong part- making it easy street during your busy mornings.

Use a little pomade to keep the hair on the sides in shape, then style the top with a high-quality pomade like our HydroClay, transforming the hair into an angled comb over for an all-day hold with matte shine.

#5 QUIFF WITH LOW FADE

 source

If your child was blessed with thick, volumous, locks for days, you’re both going to LOVE this easy, attention-grabbing hairstyle.

Quiff hairstyles also follow the “short on the sides and long on top” trend. The quiff is famous for its height and volume, followed by a messy finish and a brushed back or combed over texture. Similar to the pompadour and disconnected undercut, the quiff is a favorite due to its high contrast style. What makes the quiff unique is the wavy and slanted appearance that you don’t normally get with other volumous hairstyles .

To style this look, start with a fresh shower, towel-dried hair. Make sure to leave it slightly damp, but not dry. Next, apply your styling product evenly throughout hair and style according to your preferred height and texture. Blow dry by pulling it up and back to create extra volume. For a sleek quiff use a brush and for a messier look, simply use your fingers. Lastly, create an angular comb over by using a brush to comb the hair directly back. Don’t be afraid to use more pomade or wax or a higher heat setting on your blow dryer to achieve extra volume and texture.
